Here's the part where I say crappy things about my writing. Where I complain about my characters and my plot and the pain of imperfect, unedited prose.
Here's where I don't care.
I can see how people fall out of love with their novels at this point. Cramming 50,000 words and all the expectations for the success of a story you've idealized to the point of perfection into ONE month is ridiculous.
I've spent days away from my work, cursing it, trying to figure out ways to kill everyone. I've spent hours at a time, without food or cell phone to distract me, plotting ways for them to fall in love. I've spent an entire year figuring out the plot of this story, but I won't go there...
The update? I actually have chapters. Instead of one long rambling free write document, I have simultaneous separation and cohesion. Still lots of confusion, but I don't mind it so far.
I'm miles ahead of where I started when I began this month. Even though my word count is under half of where I need to be in seven days, I'm okay. My stick is staying on the ice.
Current word count: 15541.

NaNoWriMo Update:
After a few nights of steady refusal to edit what I type immediately after the cursor moves away from a sentence, I finally cracked ten thousand words.
Mathematically speaking, that's crap. Watch:
50,000 / 30 = 1,666.66667 x (12 - 3) = 15,000.
(words)/(days) = (avg. words/day) x (days so far) = (words I should have)
I need to write at least 1,700 words a day. No big deal.
I need to write 40,000 words in eighteen days. Uh oh.
Current word count: 10,004

NaNoWriMo in November
Happy fall! This is probably my favorite time of year; Halloween, Thanksgiving, crisp nights, warm baking smells, and National Novel Writing Month.
I (unofficially) attempted NaNoWriMo last year, but I'm pledging myself to complete the task this month: 50,000 words in 30 days.
My writing buddy, Matzilla (who you can find over at Check It!), keeps updating his word count status (4,528 as of today, sigh) to keep me on track/interested/slightly competitive.
So I'm cheating a little bit because I'm not starting from scratch, but at least I'll be writing. Agenda: more writing, less editing.
I'll try to sync this with my Twitter so word counts and possible 'novel' excerpts show up here in the next few days.
Wish me luck :)
Word Count (11.4.10.) 1728.
